Award: The winner will receive:
  • A cash award of $10,000,
  • A paid internship at either Fox News Channel, The Wall Street Journal, or The New York Post
  • Free housing will be provided for winners from outside of the New York City area.

The Object:
We are looking for work which best reflects the spirit of Mr. Breindel's writings, love of country and its democratic institutions as well as the commitment to preserve the freedoms that allow such institutions to flourish. These themes are applicable to campus topics--personal experience or contemporary philosophical thought.

Eligibility:
Must be an undergraduate student at an accredited college or university in the United States at the time the submitted pieces were written. Entries must have been published in the 2011-2012 academic year.

Submissions:

  • No more than 2 editorials, columns or news stories per person.
  • Articles specifically produced for and published in a university-sanctioned undergraduate newspaper, magazine or website will be accepted. Internet exclusive material (articles published online, but not in a corresponding print source of the same name) may be submitted if the site is accredited by a college or university at the time of the submission's postmark.
  • If a team was involved in the writings, only one name should appear on the entry form.
  • There can be more than one participant from a publication.
  • "Letters to the Editor" are not eligible.
    Submission Requirements:
    Two copies of each article should be submitted: (1) A PDF of the original article showing the name and date of the publication if submitting online or a printed or photo copy of the hard copy or online article if submitting via mail. (2) A Word document copy of the original article.

Entry Information:

Deadline: The entires must be postmarked or submitted online by Friday, April 20, 2012.

Winner: The winner will be announced in June 2012. The winner will be chosen by a panel of judges appointed by the Eric Breindel Memorial Foundation.
